Puppy Recall: Build Reliability Before Distractions

Reliable recall is built through many successful repetitions before difficulty is increased.

Start in a safe low-distraction area. Use your recall cue once, encourage the puppy toward you and reward generously when they arrive. Increase distance gradually while keeping success high. Do not repeatedly test recall where success is unlikely. Use appropriate safety management outdoors while the skill is developing, and add distractions one step at a time.
Educational guidance only. Health, pain, medication or urgent concerns require appropriate veterinary advice.
